Since my internet is being a huge pain at the moment and not letting me upload photos I took at Pebble Beach last year, I'll talk about the inspiration for my e30, Em. There are three main ones. One, is this DTM inspired Mercedes Benz 190E built by a dude in Japan for time attack. I've attached the speedhunters article link. Here are a few pictures of it.
I love how subtle, yet menacing this thing looks. From a quick glance, you don't notice too much about it but looking closer you see the carbon fiber hood, the EVO kit, the wing, splitter, and it's really cool seeing all that on a sedan. On the inside, it's all gutted and purposeful. I imagine this car is insanely fun to drive. I have a thing for fast sedans and wagons, it's an internal juxtaposition that doesn't quite make sense. Luxury sedans have a nice presence so combining a small classic luxury sedan (which is extremely mechanical by today's standards) with racecar styling and modding it for track purposes, mmm that's perfection to me.
The second biggest piece of inspiration is Jon Olsson's DTM inspired RS6.
You can already see a trend forming. Another unorthadox DTM inspired car. This car packs ~1000hp... to all four wheels. AND IT LOOKS AMAZING! This car also has a full interior. I guess you can afford some weight when you have 4 digit horsepower figures... I REALLY love the exterior of this car. GR1P's logo is grey and red, and I plan to make the color scheme for Em the same. This is an excellent example of a car that uses very similar shades of grey and red and makes it work.
The third piece of inspiration is actually a video game. If you guys have ever played Asseto Corsa, you'd know it's an extremely realistic simulator. I don't have a setup myself, but one of my best friends from highschool does (and a very nice simulator at that) and I go over to his place to run laps. Anyways, in the game, I like to run the Group A E30 M3. I know it's just a video game, but I know I want a car that handles like how I imagine that car would in real life. I've played using the E30 M3 Sport EVO, and the Group A M3 and it feels very different.
It's so fast and predictable.
So these are 3 cars that I look to for inspiration for my car. What do you guys drive, and what inspires your build?
